Subway Shelton

In a celebration of Subway®’s flavorful ingredients, brandx created a sub-perb brand strategy for their new global headquarters in Shelton, Connecticut. Signature shades of Subway Green® and Subway Yellow® are accented by Tomato Reds, and Pepper Greens across the 90,000-square-foot, three-story space. 915 linear feet of graphics are melted across the surfaces, along with 395 signs and informational placards.

The wayfinding strategy is “flavor-coded” – each level represented by a different color palette that visualizes Subway’s six flavor profiles: Fresh, Tangy, Savory, Melty, Seasoned, and Spicy. Level 10 has Fresh and Tangy neighborhoods, featuring rooms like Spinach, Cucumber, Pickle, and Bell Pepper. Level 9 is Tomato Red and Level 8 is Pepper Green. This colorized strategy offers a taste of Subway’s brand experience, while functioning as a means of intuitive navigation.

The design incorporates nods to the Subway® brand, like a tone-on-tone international logo graphic, custom ceramic tiles, and glass film with their signature arrows pointing towards entrances. Recognizing Subway's legacy, the brand experience design also includes plaques, stating fun facts about the brand’s relationship to Connecticut. Through a careful balance of designing for employee wellness and physical brand embodiment, the Shelton headquarters unveils a new standard for immersive workplace environments.
